HI future bloggers,
At last an opportunity to express your opinions about children's health and any concerns you may have about allergies, lifestyle choices or any food related queries you may have regarding your children's well being.
As you may be aware allergies are on the increase and in particular food related allergies in children under five.
As allergies are growing at an alarming rate this is our chance to discuss these issues and why we think perhaps this may be happening.
Lecturing in the Early Childhood Sector gives me a connection with industry where allergies are of particular concern.
Many theories are evolving as to why this may be happening but of current interest is 'when is the appropriate time to introduce solids?' and whether it is making an impact on allergies. Some believe introducing solids before six months can now lead to increased allergies yet there is still further evidence required before this evidence can be conclusive.
Another theory is we are making our environment too clean (free of germs) so that children aren't building up a natural resistance to germs and bacteria.
Throughout childcare centres now is the promotion of natural cleaning agents(including vinegar and bi-carbonate of soda) which are proving to be as effective as harsh cleaning agents without chemical residue being left behind.Sometimes a paste is made out of vinegar and bi-carbonate of soda which can be then used for multiple purposes around your centre or within your own home.(great for whitening grouting, cleaning sinks ,baths and tiles.
Another area of concern is the amount of packaged food being promoted for children.
May I suggest a 'nude food' campaign where food comes in its natural skins so that children can experience food at its absolute freshest in an unadulterated state.Take a banana for instance. Freeze it whole, then place it into a blender for a delicious banana ice or place it in the blender in its frozen state with a little honey and yoghurt for an instant fruit smoothie.I will continue to provide you with further recipes ,tips and healthy food options for you and your family to share.
So next time you walk down the fresh food aisle of your local supermarket think about the endless possibilities we can create with 'nude food' or perhaps you are working in the early childhood sector and can introduce some new and exciting ways with natural foods into your menu planning.Above all lets demonstrate to children the joys and pleasures associated with healthy food as illustrated throughout my site.
Look forward to hearing from you.
 Keep healthy!
Regards,
Lynda
